“I don’t do windows!” That statement is a running tagline for nearly every TV show or movie featuring a sassy maid. It sums up the attitude that most people feel towards cleaning windows – that it’s mundane, tiresome work. This is perhaps why some many people either put off doing their windows as long as they can or just give them a cursory wipe-down. Well, as we’ve pointed out on this blog in the past, the look of your windows is just as important as any other feature of your business. So, if you are one of those people who have decided to go it on your own when it comes to window cleaning, allow us to point out some of the mistakes you are probably making when you don’t use commercial window washing in our inland empire.
- Not practicing safe window cleaning: Yes, we know that window washing seems pretty cut and dried but it can be dangerous under certain circumstances. Thorough window washing involves reaching tall windows, balancing on step-stools, climbing ladders etc., all of which can lead to slips and falls. Moreover, some people can find themselves overcome by the chemicals used in commercial window cleaning solutions. If you feel you must clean your own windows, do so with plenty of ventilation and with a partner so that you can keep an eye on one another.
- Cleaning only one side: Dirt and debris can, and usually does, collect on both sides of windows. It may be easier to reach the inside window than the outside one, but for a truly immaculate job you should clean both the interior and exterior.
- Using the wrong equipment: Newspaper and old rags just won’t cut it when it comes to removing dirt, grime, grease and other debris from windows. This may be a cheap way to do things but it won’t clean thoroughly and will only lead to streaks and smudges. True professionals will know exactly what instruments and solutions to use in order to clean and protect your windows.
- Washing windows with hard water: Water that contains a high concentration of minerals otherwise known as “hard water” can cause streak and scratches to your windows. If you must wash your own windows try using distilled water instead.
